What Is a Weight Sensor for Heavy Trucks?
Also called a truck scale load cell, weighbridge load cell or heavy-duty load cell, a weight sensor for heavy trucks is the precision component that turns a loaded truck’s mass into a reliable, billable number.
When a heavy truck drives onto a weighbridge, the load is transferred through the tires to the steel weighing deck, then distributed to multiple load cells at the support points. Each sensor converts mechanical force into an electrical signal, and the weighing indicator combines the signals to display the total vehicle weight.
Heavy-truck sensors are built for a much tougher life than standard industrial load cells — they must survive high shock loads, off-centre loading, mud, pressure washing and extreme temperatures, while keeping trade-approved accuracy for commercial billing, logistics settlement and overload enforcement.
